March is Women’s History Month - an annual celebration to honor the indispensable role women have played in shaping our world. As scholars, practitioners, educators, and advocates, the Advising Success Network (ASN) celebrates the women in higher education creating systems and cultures that are inclusive and student-centered.
Below, we highlight new resources and opportunities from the ASN to support these redesign efforts: a set of case studies on the role of technology in institutional transformation; a three-volume guidebook for using data strategically to support change initiatives; and a reminder to apply for the inaugural ASN Holistic Advising Awards.
What We're Reading
Case Study Showcase:
Middle Tennessee State University & South Texas College
From ASN core partners EDUCAUSE and Achieving the Dream, we are proud to bring the field two case studies on institutions leveraging data and technology to transform advising.
Addressing the Challenges of Systems, Culture, and Human Resources in Using Data Strategically
This guidebook from ASN core partner the National Resource Center on the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition draws upon in-depth interviews with administrators who have oversight of academic advising at 18 institutions to provide strategies and examples of what campus leaders have been doing to promote consistent, coherent, and collaborative data use in advising.
Our mission is to help institutions build a culture of student success, with a focus on Black, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, and Pacific Islander students, as well as students from low-income backgrounds, by identifying, building, and scaling equitable and holistic advising solutions that support all facets of the student experience.
Vision
Our vision is a higher education landscape that has eliminated race and income as predictors of student success through a reformed approach to advising, in which all students are supported through a seamless, personalized postsecondary experience that creates better personal, academic, and professional outcomes.
