What We're Reading
Principles to Guide Your Advising Redesign
The Advising Success Network was built to be the go-to source for deepening, accelerating, scaling and sustaining student-centered equitable and impactful advising practice and reform. One of our primary goals is to provide the field with open-source assets that support institutions in holistic advising redesign. The eight Advising Principles included in this report offer a starting place for institutional leadership, practitioners, and students to structure strong advising environments to propel student success.
Integrating Career Advising for Equitable Student Success: A Toolkit (2022 Update)
This practical toolkit – and companion to their previous report – from The Career Leadership Collective and ASN partner the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, builds upon the idea that career advising can be meaningfully integrated throughout an institution to create systemic opportunities, life-long economic mobility, and career satisfaction, all positively impacting equitable student success.
Ask proud students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the country why they have chosen their institution, and they will share a list of reasons they have chosen to attend these “illustrious” universities. Listening to students, it becomes evident that they love their HBCU because of the sense of belonging, community, identity development, and faculty and staff support they receive. Providing these experiences is at the heart of advising practices on HBCU campuses across the country.
The NASPA ASN team is looking for two student interns for Spring or year-long internships! Please share with your networks - our priority deadline is December 31st.
Our mission is to help institutions build a culture of student success, with a focus on Black, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, and Pacific Islander students, as well as students from low-income backgrounds, by identifying, building, and scaling equitable and holistic advising solutions that support all facets of the student experience.
Vision
Our vision is a higher education landscape that has eliminated race and income as predictors of student success through a reformed approach to advising, in which all students are supported through a seamless, personalized postsecondary experience that creates better personal, academic, and professional outcomes.
