    Certified Peer Educator Training

NASPA’s Certified Peer Educator (CPE) training is a fantastic training opportunity for your students that will provide a foundation for understanding the role of a peer educator and the way to effectively and successfully create change on campus and in their community.

The CPE Train-the-Trainer program is an excellent way to bring CPE training to your campus in a sustainable, lasting way. Professional staff members go through the four-hour training and learn the fundamentals and goals of CPE, how to facilitate each module, and how to manage the technical aspects of the training. The only ongoing cost associated with the student training is the price of CPE Student Workbooks.

Youth Risk Behavior Survey (2021 Data Update)

The annual Youth Risk Behavior Survey data by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) shows that although the prevalence of substance use among US high school students declined from 2019 to 2021, alcohol remained the most used substance.

Results from the 2021 National Youth Risk Behavior Survey show that in the past 30 days:

    • 20% of US high school students reported consuming alcohol
    • 10% reported binge drinking
    • Alcohol use and binge drinking were more common among girls than among boys
    • Use of multiple substance use was prevalent, the most common being alcohol and marijuana

How can the study's results inform the programming work of your peer educators? See below for resources you can utilize to reduce substance use on your campus.

    • The Personal Feedback Index (PFI) is a free confidential tool that allows students to examine the impact and consequences of their alcohol use. You can link directly to the PFI on your website or integrate it into health promotion programming.
